Until I stumbled upon Peter Drucker’s timeless Harvard Business Review classic Managing Oneself,” I don’t think I really fully understood the concept of taking full ownership of my growth, both personally and professionally.

This masterpiece in modern management opened my eyes to the idea that lasting success isn’t just about working hard or meeting expectations — it’s about having the self-awareness to discern how I work best, what I value most, and where my strengths can make the greatest impact in my day-to-day work.

In order “to build a life of excellence,” he says, “you must begin by asking yourself these questions”:

“What are my strengths?”
“How do I work?”
“What are my values?”
“Where do I belong?”
“What can I contribute?”
